ECAR Presents Community Service and Affiliate of the Year Awards
The
Eastern Connecticut Association of REALTORS® presented the 2010
Community Service Award and the 2010 Affiliate of the Year Award recently at
the Surf & Turf Café at America’s on the Wharf in Norwich.
The
Community Service Award is presented to an ECAR member who does significant
work in the community for the benefit of charities, organizations and
individuals. The winner was Carol
Christiansen of RE/MAX Realty Group in Gales Ferry. In addition to be very
active in the Girl Scouts for 33 years in a number of leadership roles, Carol
is active in the Ledyard Rotary Club and is their current Vice President. She
has also participated in numerous service projects for a variety of local
organizations. A donation of $500 was made to the Girl Scouts as part of the
award.
The
runner-up was William Champagne of The Partner Network, LLC in Norwich. In
addition to being President of the Norwich Historical Society, Bill is
Treasurer of the Preston Historical Society and has previously served in
leadership positions for the Norwich Heritage Trust and Rose City Renaissance.
A donation of $250 was made to the Norwich Historical Society as part of the
award.
Other
nominees included Stella Elbaum of Prudential Connecticut Realty, Pat Erricson
of Prudential Connecticut Realty, Cathy Newlin of
RE/MAX Home Team, and Michele Peters of Prudential Connecticut Realty.
The Affiliate Award is
presented to an Affiliate member who has contributed to the ECAR community, has
a reputation for ethical conduct and exemplifies the REALTOR®
spirit, offers valuable service and/or information or products to members, and
participates in ECAR events and is on ECAR committee(s). The winner was Hughes
“Toby” Griffis of Waller, Smith, & Palmer, P.C.
Toby has served the association for many years, serving as legal counsel for
the Association as well as its Professional Standards Committee. He has
actively participated in a number of ECAR committees. In the community he has
served in leadership positions for numerous local civic and government
organizations, has taught numberous real estate
continuing education courses, and has been Chairman of the New London County
Bank Bar Committee for Real Estate Lawyers since 1995.
Other nominees for the award
included Chris Albanese of the Law Firm of Chris Albanese, Dennis Palmer of
Citizens Mortgage, and Jon Peck of Peck & Tuneski,
P.C.
