Because the House of Representatives was not in session during the NAR REALTOR Party Conference & Expo in May, local associations were asked to schedule in district meetings with Congressmen to discuss the issues.

ECAR member Rachael Johnston, Federal District
Coordinator for Courtney, introduces the congressman

On Friday, June 27, Congressman Joe Courtney came to ECAR for a meeting with the leadership to discuss what Congress is doing on the following issues:

– Preserve the mission and purpose of the FHA
– Preserve real estate related tax policies
– Reform the secondary mortgage market to provide certainty in the U.S. housing market

Flood insurance reform and short sales were also discussed.

Congressman Courtney expressed his support for all of our positions on these issues, but indicated that Congress is unlikely to take action this year.

He did say, however, that he did expect that the expired mortgage cancellation debt forgiveness provision and a few others will be reinstated during the lame duck session.
